Guys, I don’t know who should I take LORs from. My counselor says that I require only 3 of them. I am applying for a computer science Major. So what do you think about which teachers I should approach for my LORs (subject wise, etc)?
Look at which teachers know you best. Some schools specify who (subject wise) they want the LORs from so look at the admissions requirements for the schools on your list.
You have left out a lot of information like which classes you have actually taken, which teachers are still there, which ones are still taking requests - around here kids had to ask by 9/15 if they were applying early anywhere, and by 10/15 otherwise, but many teachers would say they will only write letters for a given number of kids, and it would be first come first served - so the better prepared kids would know which teachers wrote the best letters.
Your want letters from the teachers who know you best and are best able to point out the qualities that will make you an attractive candidate.
Our kids ask in spring of Junior year, and all letters were submitted by summer’s end. So I would get to this today-- and don’t expect instant results. In my school, progress grades are due.
You have to check the requirements for each college, but your next safest bet is one from a math or science teacher and one from an English or Social Studies teacher. The third is usually your GC, but again, check to be sure. You’re late in the game for this year. I would ask ASAP. It’s true that some teachers will only write so many. Unless your school gives accommodation for their time spent on LORs, you can’t blame them for setting limits.
