letter of recommendation

Hello everyone

I have a general question about letters of recommendation from graduates: In which way are they considered and how helpful can they be?
I have heard that many colleges don't even accept these letters. In case they do: How does this work? Does the letter have to be sent in by the graduate or inside the application envelope for example?

Thank you

Most schools won't mind a supplemental app. However, a letter from a graduate probably wouldn't have much effect unless the graduate has some influence at the school, or if the graduate gives donations or is involved with important work. Recommendation letters are generally sent by the recommender, so in this case, by the graduate (but it doesn't have to be)
