Letter of Recommendations

I’m planning to major in architecture for college and universities that I’m applying to does not have a specific subject required for letter of recommendations. However, I’ve already asked one from my Physics teacher because Science seems like a necessary course for my major.

Yet, some schools require at least two letter of recommendations to apply. In this case, it it better to ask a Math teacher (because Math is kind of related to my major) or an English teacher who only taught me a year, but knows me personally?

Not knowing all the details I’d probably go with the English teacher. Generally it is best to use the teachers who know you best – no need for the recommendation to tie into your major. As a matter of fact, colleges often like to have one STEM teacher recommendation and one humanities teacher recommendation.

Use the teacher that you think will write the best letter of recommendation. If you are torn between 2, you could ask your GC if they are the experienced and helpful type. One of our children had an excellent teacher that knew them extremely well but we could tell from the teacher’s midterm written reports that this teacher wrote sort of boiler plate assessments. We chose another teacher who had written a midterm report with examples, enthusiasm and life to it.
