Hey guys,
so I am a senior and I intend to apply to the UCs and Cal States of California. We all now that letter of recommendations are more for private colleges and scholarships. But then I typed in “uci letter of recommendation” and suddenly there were multiple websites saying that UCI does require at least 3 letter of recommendations.
Does anyone have experiences/ answers to my concerns wether UCs and Cal States require letter of recommendations? Thanks
http://www.grad.uci.edu/admissions/applying-to-uci/letters-recommendation.html this is the website I saw as an example
That’s for grad school.
On the UC admissions page it says:
UC does not require (nor read) letters of recommendation at the time of application. A campus may ask for them later as part of a supplemental review, so be sure to check your email.
but at an information session for Berkeley, they said that they are starting a new thing where they ask certain people for letters but the letters are still optional. I think that is what they mean by “A campus may ask for them later as part of a supplemental review” so it is probably applicable for most campuses.
CSUs don’t require letters of rec.
so @batatachal is it better to have some letters of rec. written by teachers to be save in the case that UCs do ask for them. Right?
@applicationhelp2 well from what i know, the school will send an email letting you know if they want letters and all you have to do is put in your teachers’ email addresses, and the school will contact the teachers directly.
You should tell the teachers you want letters from once you get the email so that they don’t have to write unnecessary letters.
If you are applying to private schools that require/recommend them, then you should talk to your teachers if you haven’t already done so.
