letter to admissions

Would it seem inappropriate to write a letter to office of admissions stating why I want to attend NYU, or what it would mean to me? This has nothing to do with the essay or anything, but as an applicant "less qualified", would showing my strong interest in the school help in any way?

Does anyone know stories of people this has worked for/or against?

Showing interest in the school is good. But, I don’t know if that is how to do it. However, make sure to include all of that in your application. Deff go take a tour and maybe ask if you could speak with professor or someone. Unfortunately NYU doesn’t offer interviews.

If you are a junior or younger, you could a summer program and/or apply early decision.

It seems like you applied RD… I agree with Bryan, hopefully you’ve been on a tour, signed up for the mailing list. Sending a letter now doesn’t seem like it would really help.

(For any future applicants, demonstrated interest is “considered” at NYU, which was a big surprise to me, given there are so many applicants. The levels stated in the Common Data Set are “very important”,“important”, “considered” and “not considered”. )

Hope that you have yourself covered with safeties and matches if you are considering yourself a less qualified applicant.
