Today when I saw the Old Well in the corner of one of my letters, I got really excited, thinking it was an Honors invitation. Instead, it's...well, I don't even know. Did anyone else get a random "congratulations" letter? It's dated January 30th and signed Holden Thorp. Is this what they send to non-honors students? :/

yeah i did too. I was really wondering what this was for

Both my boys got the same letter. We were wondering the same thing. Interesting but a waste of paper and a stamp in my opinion. That could have come in an email.
I'll be anxious to hear from everyone else.

i got the same thing. i was about to crap my pants. can't believe it was just another congrats, haha.

I, like all of you, was surprised by this letter today, but it must not have anything to do with not getting into honors, as my son received an invitation to the honors program yesterday. We live pretty close to Chapel Hill, so hopefully others will start to receive invitations soon!

Thanks a million for the update, TheSparrow :)

Oh Lordy. please do post if you guys start receiving them !!

I also got this today (and was hoping that it'd be an Honors invitation). If you look onthe envelope by the well, it reads "Project Uplift" under "UNC." I think this was sent out in an effort to reach out to students who would add more diversity to Carolina.

Diversity and Multicultural Affairs | Prospective Students | Project Uplift

That's weird...I'm a middle-class white girl :P

are you a first-gen?

I am, and I think that's what got me in, haha

Nope, both parents went to college

haha yeah I'm in the same boat as you kelceylein: white, upper-middle class girl, both parents went to college, although I am from MA... maybe that's diversity?

haha same here. tough economic times. maybe they're trying to conserve resources?

Well, no complaints here. If they want to consider a Floridian "diverse", I'm more than happy to comply :P

Holden Thorp is the new Chancellor at UNC and this is his first time through the admissions process as Chancellor. Perhaps it is just his way of reaching out to his true first class of admitted students.

did anyone else get another pointless letter today? I see the old well in the upper left-hand corner of the envelope and I get all excited, like maybe they decided they want me in the honors college after all (overly idealistic, I know) and I tear it open only to find another congratulations. I mean, I'm thrilled to have been accepted, but stop teasing me, unc!

Yup, I got that. Same thing happens to me :P

I have had three congrats letters after my acceptance one. They are starting to annoy me cause I start to get all excited.
