If you didn't get a letter about National Merit Scholar, does that mean that you're definitely not in? I see people in here talking about getting letters saying they're commended scholars, but I've gotten no such thing. I was pretty sure I'd be at least commended... my PSAT score was 221 and I am in Minnesota.

If you are a US citizen or lawful permanent resident , took the 2006 PSAT as a junior, and met the qualifying score (221 is more than enough) the letter should have been sent to your school and then been given to you, or mailed to you, by the school. Check w/ the school.

Okay, more than likely my school has neglected to give it to me. Since I met all the requirements. I've always thought my school was a bit incompetent...

yeah, you should definitely have it by now...

You only have until May 23 to specify up to two schools that NMSC will make a referral to.

More importantly, if you are having a communications problem now, make sure your school follows through on semi-finalist notification in September. Your score should be high enough in MN to get you semi-finalist status. You will need your school's cooperation next September to allow you to complete the steps required to make finalist status. Notification threads will undoubtedly pop up on CC next September.

What happens if I don't meet the deadline?

My school doesn't give juniors their NMS stuff until September of their senior years.
