which is more competitive for admissions: the college of letters and sciences or the henry samulini (whatever can't spell that) school of engineering?

It's probably easier to get into Letters & Sciences.

Surprisingly, I think the college of L&S. HSSEAS accepted around 30% of applicants for EE, which is considered the most competitive engineering major besides bioengineering.

Overall, UCLA accepted around ~22-24% of students.

Letters and Science probably is a bit harder to get in. Engineering probably harder to get out of than most north campus majors.

Reason, Berkeley and SD seem to attract the engineers more due to prestige and other factors. Not one member of the math club at my school went to LA. It was either Berk EECS or UCSD BioE with a couple of MechEs going to Berk.

errr, i think you're mistaken fastmed. I chose UCLA over... cal ucsd cornell columbia... so i mean.. it's competitive and definitely more so that L&S.

its definately harder to get into engineering than L&S... fastMEd, just because Berkeley and SD have a better prestige than LA doesn't mean Engineering is easier than L&S because Cal and SD have nothing to do with who UCLA admit... plus not everyone who got into Cal for engineering turns down UCLA because myself and a lot of other people I met has turned down Cal for UCLA because of everything else instead of basing our next 4 years on prestiges level of a school...

statistics please. compare ls admit versus engineering admit stats. Of course, I understand the fact that students consider other factors than prestige when choosing a school. Why else would I have chosen LA over Berkeley when I want a career in business? Berkeley is just too close to home.

Engineering.
