hey guys--got my packet today...anyone else hear?

My son got a packet - but he isn't home yet.

Soon comes the real paperwork. Lots of it. But it is, in the end worth it.

My strongest suggestion is to take your time when filling out the housing packet. The survey that you work on can be very influential towards the quality of your roommate.

Also, consider joining a Special Interest House. There are several to choose from, all of which can help in making the first, and future years a more enjoyable experiance.

yeh i just got in too, do you guys know if freshman can have cars?

I bet you can. RIT has tons of parking (not close though). BTW son got in too.

I'm in! Do you know if they send out financial or scholarship letters separately?

they definitely do...b/c honors is done separately, too...and i think i have a good shot at a prez scholarship...

i'm econ, what are you all?

To answer DSoke, yes, you are allowed cars in your freshman year. However parking can sometimes be some distance away.

For everyone else, if you have any questions, just ask, I check this on a regular basis.

tabletcorry--
is baker decent, or you you end up alienated? (it's ALL honors, right? that seems a bit isolated to me...)

Zel17- Well, I have not personally lived in Baker, but I can offer this: The amount that you are alienated is about the same in any building.

What matters the most is finding friends outside of your floor and doing something, anything with them. In my first year, I was moderately alienated in Sol, one of the largest buildings on campus, but that was simply because most of the people on floor happened to already have friends.

If you do find that your floor has nothing to offer to you, that is where the frats or the Special Interest Houses (SIH) come into play. I believe that both allow for honor students. Even if you choose not to move onto the SIH, all of them allow for a form of "off-floor" membership that gives you a place to hang out as you want.

I hail from Rochester and also did some Grad work at RIT. Not only is the parking far away but it is mostly in an exposed area where wind and snow can be something to take your breath away. Snow shovels in the trunk anyone.

Having a car though is a great idea as long as you can manage it along with the college work. While I think buses do run everywhere, a car will get you to all the nearby resturants, malls ect. A huge mall called the Marketplace is about 3 miles away. Also a Regal 20 screen about the same distance. The mall spans both sides of the road, all the big box stores for clothes, circuit city, best buy ect.

Any other questions about the area?

Yay I got mine. Can't make a decision though till I hear about financial aid. Its my first choice right now because I will probably hear about financial aid before I even get my decision from my 2nd choice.

okay, i just got a letter about some merit aid...i guess they do that before honors is totally selected...cool that i don't have to do a separate app, though!

me too, $10k presidential scholarship!

congrats, i got presidential, too!

where's RIT on your list?

In all honesty it was my top safety/lower match... but I'm not sure I'll get into any of my other schools, as only one of them would probably be considered a match and the rest are reaches so RIT is def. a real possibility, esp. with the money and price of tuition :)

you?

tied for #1-ish with a few others (SU and Princeton)...it's in my hometown, which is a downside...but the fin aid is rather attractive...

I got the presidential scholarship ($10k). However, I've pretty much eliminated it from my list (3rd out of 4 choices).

My D got her packet, but we are also waiting for the financial aid package before any decisions are made.

Yay Presidential and Honors. Its tied for first with Northeastern.
