Ok so I'm trying to get all of my stuff together this summer so I can apply early for all of my schools. I have two questions!

How do teachers submit letters of rec? Like are they required on the Common App, and if so do they have to submit each one to each school/alter anything for each school? (I'm planning on applying to many schools so I don't want my teachers to have to do a ton of work)

2.How many essays should I write? There's multiple prompts so do you just choose one, or is it better if you do more, or does it not matter?

Sorry I probably sound extremely stupid but I found it difficult to get these answers straightforward online. Thanks guys!:)

The applications period opens up in August for common app, I believe you only choose one of the five essay topics to write about, but some schools require an supplemental essay that is for the respective school only.

Ok how about the letters of rec?

Usually you just need two, but you can send in additional ones as well if you feel that they would be impactful

But do the teachers just submit them to the common app once, and then I can use them for all tenish of my schools I’m applying to? Or do they have to change them or resubmit them for each individual school?

Teacher’s send individual forms to EACH school that you apply to. Recommendations do not go through the Common App. Your teachers simply use the Common App form to do the submissions. I would definitely recommend providing your teachers with envelopes for all the necessary addresses and include postage along with it.

To figure out which teachers to ask recommendations from, I have a small section in my guide here - [Teacher Recommendations - The App Style](The App Style - A College Application Guide)

Yes, your teachers uploads his or her recommendation into the common app form or writes it into the common app form just once. You can use it for any or all of your schools as you see fit. The recommendation should, therefore, not normally be tailored to a particular school.

You can also add additional schools and assign the teacher’s recommendation to those schools after the teacher’s recommendation has already been entered into the common app.

Some teachers do still prefer to send their recommendations by post. Most colleges upon receipt of hard copy recommendations now scan them and add them to your electronic file for review. If a teacher submits a hard copy by post, you will not get confirmation of that through the common app system.
