Letters of Rec and Transcripts?

I see there's an option using the common app to invite a certain teacher or counselor to submit their letter of recommendation via mail or another option. Is this actually what I'm thinking it is? Is that the way to go with sending in letters of recommendation to the colleges you're applying to that use common app? I should probably get a hard copy of them too so I can send it to the colleges I want to apply to that don't use common app, right?... I can't use the common app for transcripts, right? Thanks!

“Is that the way to go with sending in letters of recommendation to the colleges you’re applying to that use common app?” Yep. You need to invite them via email address, and then they can decide whether they want to upload their recommendation or send a hard copy.

As for the non-Common App schools, you need to ask your counselor/teacher to send letters to those specific schools. For example, at my school, you provide them with a list of schools you’re applying to along with stamped and addressed envelopes, and they’ll send them off. The procedure might be different, depending on your school and whether or not you chose to waive your right to view the letter.

For the transcript thing, you also use the Common App for your Common App schools. Your school can choose to either upload that or send a hard copy.

When you assign those Teachers and Counselor to schools you are applying to, the school officials get an email inviting them to use the Common App online system. They can use that, which allows them the ability to upload transcripts and evaluations as well as fill out the other information online, or they can opt to do this offline. In this case the School Forms are presented to you, partially filled in with your information, so you can print them out and send to the officials.

As I see it, I should send have my teachers who I want recommendations from send them via email/upload them AND get hard copies so I can give to my school to send to the universities that don’t use common app?.. Thanks a lot guys!
