Letters of Rec for merit aid?

I have pretty high scores and good EC's and I'm submitting an essay but do I need some Letters of Reccomendation too to have a good shot at a generous FA package? I ask because I go to a pretty small school so all my letters of rec will come from the same 2-3 teachers and I'd hate to add one more college to their list. Plus, I want to apply asap and if I need letters I'll probably have to wait until the end of august to ask them.

For FA package: you just need to file the FAFSA, no recommendations needed for it.

I received full tuition with no recs, just one essay and the application

MTnest: Well uhh FA package may not be the right terminology. I just mean for the University scholarships, which I know you need an essay for.

Pitt 2014: Thanks! Would you mind telling me what your SAT/ACT scores were?

University scholarships - just the essay (although it seems they only care about the scores). Search the threads there are plenty stats posted, on average 1450 is needed for consideration for full scholarship. Remember it is NOT GUARANTEED you will get a scholarship if you have the 1450 – students with higher stats have received zilch! Of course, if you have a “hook” they want then the scores could be significantly lower.
