Is it bad to have both letters of rec written by teachers in the same department? I had one English teacher for both 9th and 10th grade honors English, and I have a different English teacher for both 11th and 12th grade AP English. I already asked my 11th/12th grade teacher for a letter of rec because I did extremely well in her class last year and she likes me, and for my other letter of rec I really want to ask my 9th/10th English teacher because she saw me progress over 2 years and would write a good letter. Although then I would have both letters of rec written by English teachers. Is that a problem? The only other teacher I would consider asking is my 11th grade APUSH teacher, but I didn't participate much in that class and I got a B. Any feedback is appreciated!

You should not have 2 English teacher recs, that will be a problem. Pick a science or math teacher for the 2nd letter.

In addition to the advice to not choose two English teachers, it’s also better not to choose a teacher who last taught you in class sophomore year.

Alright thanks, I’ll probably ask my physics teacher then!
