I was looking through the Upenn application and I was just wondering…

Where do you put letters of rec from nonacademic people? For example, I want my speech and debate advisor to write me one even though I’ve never had him for any class and also my boss during my internship from the company I interned under.

Do they fill out the teachers letter of recs too? Do they write a separate letter that I just send in with the application? Is there some place on the application that takes this into account but I haven’t found yet?

Thanks for the help!

Your speech and debate advisor and internship supervisor can be an excellent choice to write a rec letter! Does the UPenn application specify how many rec letters you can submit. You don't want to exceed the maximum number allowed, because adcoms just don't have time to review extra material.

Well for the teachers letter of recs upenn has them fill out like a worksheet. I was wondering for these nonacademic people, do they still fill out these same worksheets or submit them separately? Or do they have their own section in the application (which I haven't found).

yeah, and if they write letters, do we have to submit the original?

I had the director of the volunteer agency that I work with write one for me. Typically, if it is a non-academic letter of recommendation, have the recommender type it up on their company's letterhead.

...then have the non-academic recommender staple their letter to a blank recommendation form that the university provides for your teachers to fill out. This is how all of the admissions offices have stated they prefer to receive non-academic LOR. Hope this helps. Yes, originals must be presented.

the penn app only provides 2 app forms though (for 2 teachers)
