Do they need to be in by the deadline? or should they be postmarked by the deadline? Is there any chance that the colleges will accept them if postmarked 1 day after? I am not sure if my guidance counselor sent my School Report for the common application yet and the post office doesn't open until the 2nd of Janurary and my application deadline is on Janurary 1st. I requested that she do this for me before winter break, but I just called her and she had not done it yet. I am not sure if she got it done or not. Anyone know the answers? These questions are both for LOR's and Transcripts.

Postmarked by the deadline, ideally.

If they haven't been sent in, though, don't assume that it's the end of the world -- see if you can get your counsellor to call the admissions office and explain the situation; since it's not your fault, I doubt they'll blame you for a form you weren't filling out.

If your GC is not dependable regarding getting those forms in on time, I would not depend on her to call all the admissions departments explaining the delay. YOU should do that. They will make a note in your file that you called and the explanation given. That should take care of it. Don't worry. Just stay on top of the GC.

GC and teacher recommendation forms are not due on Jan. 1. the only paperwork that is due byt he Jan. 1 deadline would be the things that are within the student's control (their application, essays, etc).

What you are asking depends on the college and thus you really need to check with ones you are applying to. Majority that have January 1 deadline do not require supporting materials on that date and those can be submitted after the first of the year.

Thanks! The only college that I am applying to that has Jan 1st deadline is JHU.
