Letters of rec.

Quick question: are students allowed to see letters of recommendation written for them before submitting them with the common app?

Thanks!

Depends on your school. I think at my school it isn’t allowed. You could always ask your teacher though!

Yes and no. It is a common practice to waive your right to see the letter, however you can take the chance and not waive it and see it later on.

If you choose not to waive it, your teacher may decide not to write it. It certainly gives the appearance that you don’t trust the teacher.

So as long as the person writing it doesn’t mind it doesn’t matter? I won’t be looking at what my teachers wrote for me but rather have a community member e-mail their letter to me so I can pass it on to my college counselor. So my main concern is if the colleges that will be receiving the letters care if you see them or not?

Thanks again for the help everyone

You are given the choice on common app to waive or not waive your LOR but colleges usually like to see you waive it.
