I'm sorry if this is common knowledge, but I am the first person in my family to apply to an American university and I couldn't find the information online.

For first time applicants to Columbia University, where should I tell my teachers to route my letters of recommendation to? Is it Naviance, CommonApp, or something else?

Acquire your teachers’ email addresses and send them an invite through common app. Some schools use Naviance (I used commonapp) so talk to your Guidance counselor.

I got lucky and managed to secure personal guidance from my counselor Thanks for the confirmation, though!

However, I was wondering if Columbia will accept additional letters of recommendation beyond the 2 required from core teachers. Is that alright, or will I bother the admissions officers by giving them extra material?

Some schools specifically state try don’t want extra recommendation letters while others accept them if those letters provide new information and a different view of yourself so check Columbias website to see their position or ask your guidance counselor. You can also try emailing or calling their admissions office.
