I have a family member who has won 4 gold medals at the Olympics and studied at an Ivy League, would I be able to submit a letter of recommendation from this person? Should I not mention the relationship that I have with this person? Thank you.
I don’t think family members are allowed to write letters of recommendation. And not disclosing such information would not be advised.
Most schools require 2 letters from teachers. Some schools allow an additional letter from just about anybody including family members, but I think in general it’s not advised. Unless you did something for/with this relative (worked for them, volunteered with them, did research, was their student…) that makes them have a unique perspective on you, I wouldn’t go there.
Letters from family members - even very accomplished family members - will not help your application. Admissions will surely discount anything they say.
submitting a LOR from an accomplished relative will make YOU look bad – the naivete of such a move will be startling. Don’t even consider it.
Did this person ever formally instruct you and evaluate your performance objectively?
No?
Listen to what everyone says and don’t even think about it.
What does the success of your family member have anything to do with you?
