The MIT one doesn’t say anything about a letter, just filling out the ‘forms’

<p>Have you looked at the teacher evaluation forms for MIT (they’re on the page I linked)? The teacher will be writing your recommendation letter using these forms.

We ask simply that you complete the check boxes on the first
page and that your letter addresses the general nature of our questions
(character, resilience, personality, context) in addition to academic
accomplishments.

The Rice one says ‘teacher evaluation’ which is, I assume, the form from the common app.

<p>Yup. Since Rice uses the common app, you use the teacher evaluation form from the common app.</p>

Stanford says “teacher evaluation”… which I THINK means the forms on the common apps. (since on the common apps, there are 2 forms called "teacher evaluation 1, teacher evaluation 2

<p>Since Stanford also uses the Common App, you use the teacher evaluation form from the common app website for both of your teachers. There’s no “evaluation 1” or “evaluation 2” thing on the Common App (you’re thinking MIT, which doesn’t use it).</p>

Because I always heard of WRITING a letter of recommendation, I think its weird that all they need is just to fill out some forms.

<p>Again, read the teacher evaluation forms; your teachers will still be writing you a letter to be attached to the form after filling in the check boxes in the beginning. From the common app teacher evaluation form:</p>

Evaluation: Please write whatever you think is important about this student, including a description of academic and personal characteristics, as demonstrated in your classroom. We welcome information that will help us to differentiate this student from others. (Feel free to attach an additional sheet or another reference you may have prepared on behalf of this student.)
