I am an international student and, not having a school counselor, have no one to ask about college admissions. I would like to know about sending school transcripts and letters of recommendation. Is it true colleges prefer having these documents mailed to them, rather than submitted online through the Common App?

As an international, you’re best served by asking your target colleges. They may have differing requirements. Fraud happens with some international applications. They want to ensure that what you and your school submits, can best serve you.

An example of fraud? An admissions rep from my college said they once rec’d six applications from a high school in Asia. Five different looking transcripts (with perfect or near perfect marks) were submitted by the six applicants – all “looking” official.
