Letters of Recommendation- Who should I ask?

I have gotten along very well with most of my teachers in high school, and I am wondering if I should ask my math/science teachers (because I am planning to major in a Science/Engineering field) or if I should ask my APUSH and Am Lit H teachers (I know the quality of my letters of rec will be better here). Should I pick the teacher/s that will give me the best letter of rec or the teachers that teach subjects related to my major?

@QuiteAverage90 Look into the schools that require recs from teachers that you are applying to. Schools like Caltech, MIT, and HMC often require rec letters from one humanities teacher, and one from a math/science teacher.

@michelle426 Most of the colleges I am applying to do not specify a subject, except for Georgia Tech. GT wants the letter of rec to be from one of your core subjects (English, History, World Language, Math, Science).

Is it possible for you to get one letter from each subject? So then you would have one letter from the math/science field, and one letter from either your history teacher or your English teacher? This way, you would have one letter from a teacher who teaches a subject related to your major. You would also have a really strong, well-written letter. If that’s possible, then that is what I would do. If not, then I personally would go with the teachers that know you the best (which appear to be your history and English teachers).

I would get two recommendations – one from the English teacher and one from a math/science teacher. That is pretty typical (and it would be fine to submit both even to schools where only one recommendation is required).
