Letters of recommendation

I'm worried because I have one school that has a deadline on Jan 1st, and I did not have enough time to ask/remind my teacher and counselor of the letter of recommendation before i left for winter vacation.

Now I'm worried that it won't be sent in on time.

However, I heard from my friend that teachers and counselor can sent them in late and it would still be fine as long as you sent in the application on time.

Is this true?

Yes, the rec–and all school forms–may be later than the application itself. But don’t abuse that fact.

so should i e-mail my teacher/counselor and ask if they have my letter of recommendation done?

rg2693, don’t worry about your application other application materials being late. The materials to three of my applications last year were late because I got so sick that I needed extremely heavy drugs and wound up in the hospital with my chronic illness. Not only did I get into all of the schools that got the materials late, I also got a letter from one that praised me for overcoming the challenges that came with being sick. They can be understanding if things are late, especially if you’ve got a good reason.

And yes, ask them as soon as you can.
