I am torn on which teachers I should ask to write letters for me. I am debating between my Physics, English, and Spanish teachers (all from Junior year). I have heard that it is normally best to choose a teacher from humanities and then one from math/science, so I figure I will definitely ask my Physics teacher. The part I am debating is my English or Spanish teacher. My Spanish teacher definitely likes me (he gave me an award this past year for most outstanding student out of all of his classes) but I feel my English teacher might be capable of writing a better letter for me (I’m probably wrong on this, but he is an amazing writer). Any help with my dilemma is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
If it were me, I would definitely go with the Spanish teacher.
Think about it this way: would you rather have someone write super eloquently that you are a “good student,” or have someone who genuinely thinks you are one of the best students he or she has ever taught write you a letter? I asked the exact same question to my GC and she said that writing quality just does not make up for lack of enthusiasm about a student.
I would go with English teacher, since that is a core subject, in addition to teacher’s writing ability. That’s assuming that your English teacher thinks highly of you. You can put Spanish award in your app as an accomplishment.
