letters of recommendation

Hi everyone. I had a quick questions about letters of recommendation.

I am submitting both the two required letters and the optional rec to Stanford. 1 of the required ones and the optional one are going to be really good, but I was debating about the other one. I was going to ask my AP Physics teacher, but the thing is I got B+s both semesters (the only class I've ever gotten below an A in and I'm 3 years advanced in math and have taken 10 AP classes). He knows I tried and worked extremely hard during the year, and I was wondering whether I should ask him to write me one and focus on how although I didn't do that well I didn't give up and stuck with it and all that good stuff, so basically focusing more on my personality and all the other stuff I've done in school rather than the bad grades. My fallback option would probably be more mediocre than the first 2.

What do you guys think?

Hmmm... Generally, you want a recommendation to be from the teacher that LOVES you. If your physics teacher does, it's probably OK.

Though "couldn't make it, but worked very hard" is not really the message you want, especially if you are a "math person", and it's a calculus-based physics class... (not that B+ is a failing grade...)

You could consider asking the teacher of a class you did well in and enjoyed relatively a lot (maybe not the most). If you feel that the teacher doesn't know you well enough, you can set up a meeting after school and share your resume (awards, activities if any) and discuss your interests. Then, the teacher can get to know you better and ask any questions.
