Letters of recommendation

One of my professors said that law schools generally don't care about how great your letter is -- only that it shows you are not crazy. Is this true?

Also, if your school only requires one letter, is it common practice to only send one? Do most people send more?

Thanks!

Law school is reputed -- not without reason -- to be mostly a number dominated process. However, in "in the zone" cases, LORs -- along with essays -- can matter quite a bit. An excellent LOR can push you over the top.

I believe most law schools require at least two letters, and many accept up to four. Requirements vary considerably from school-to-school, and most requirements are a range -- as in, at least two but no more than four. Or something like that.

It's not at all true, at least at the top LSs. They can matter a LOT.
