Letters of Recommendation

NYU's site says they want at least 1 letter of rec. Is it better to send 2, or will that just annoy the adcom?

bump…

I applied last year and got in. I sent 2 so I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t hurt.

I plan on only sending one rec but I doubt if you send two they will ignore it, never read on it anywhere.

i personally feel like recommendation letters are most effective when they are negative, in other words, if all your sent-in letters are very general flatters of you i dont think it would be very helpful since they know its in your teacher’s best interest to get you into college.

with that said, if your second rec letter has something very specific your teacher would say about you, i think it would definitely help.
but if its just basically a repeat of the same letter but from a different name, you can send it, but it probably wont make much difference.

good luck! :D

p.s. i sent in a supplementary video basically interviewing other peoples’ thoughts of me, to make me kind of stand out; i called the admissions office and they told me flat out that they probably wont have time to look at it at all, but i sent it anyways. you never know
