I know that Columbia accepts supplementary materials, such as an arts supplement, but I'm wondering if they would also accept one additional letter of recommendation from a coach? Their website makes it seem like they focus more on portfolios etc. and not letters, but I'm not sure.

I’m curious about this too cause I also had an extra rec sent from a NGO outside school.

bump…10char

I would do it only if it will really, really, REALLY help you.
I mean, colleges have so many things to read that sometimes, it can actually hurt you to send extra stuff because they have to read everything they get. Unless the college says that they will accept a few extra letters of rec, it’s good to be careful.

Well, I think it would help me because its from a coach and describes me both in the activity and as a person in a better way, but they might be put off, like you say, I’m not sure.

sounds like it will help.

as i mentioned in another thread - columbia will accept and receive as much information as you give them. how closely they read all of it depends on the attention span of the admission officer and perhaps how interesting the material it is - so that is why you shouldn’t send everything and anything, but if you think it will help you, it doesn’t hurt to send it in.
