Letters of Recommendations -- Can somebody clarify this?

EDIT: I realized that I probably should have posted this in the College Admissions forum. Please reply to my thread there instead: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=260791

I’m terribly sorry for this mistake.

I’m a little confused about the whole Letter of Recommendation thing. I’m going to be applying to the following colleges:

CalTech
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
UC Los Angeles
UC Davis
CalPoly - SLO

How do I figure out how many letters of recommendations I need (I couldn’t find anything on their websites)?

How do I turn in the letter of recommendation? Do I mail it to them, include a digital copy with my online application? Can somebody please explain this as I’m quite confused as to how it works.

Is there a deadline or something? When do I turn it in?

MUCH thanks in advance for any help I can get.

UCs don't require recommendations, so there's no directions for how to get them in. I'm not sending any with my applications to UCLA or UCB. However a friend sent in three recommendations to the address they ask you send your transcript to (office of admissions, I would assume); I'm not sure if they'll actually read them, but it can't hurt if you feel like your recs will help.

I don't know about the other schools on your list.

Yeah, I was wondering if they aren't required if it would at least help to send them in. I know that my Physics and Industrial Engineering Technology teachers would do very favorable letters for me and I was thinking that'd boost my chances of getting into Berkeley Engineering, but if it's not even required I don't know if they'd look at it or even match it with my application.

They don't want letters of reccomendation. Plain and simple.

Caltech does want letters. You can use the forms on the Common App site.

give the teacher writing the rec an addressed stamped envelope and ask them to mail it.
