letters of recommendations?

Hello!
I would like to get a doctorate in Sociolgy and I have been researching a few programs lately and they all ask for letters of recommendations from professors. However I don't plan on going to grad school right after college I want to wait at least 2 years.
My problem is after 2 years I'm pretty sure the professors won't remember me that well. So should I get them to right letters for me now before I'm done with college?
I'm sure I'm not the first person who has wanted to wait so how do letters of recommendations work if you do?

Thanks!!!

Why not get them now? I think it makes sense though I’ve no experience in the matter. Besides if they remember you after two years you can get another one if you need it :)

You may want to check with your college’s career center or something similar if you have one. I know the one at my school had a service, for a cost, where a professor could write a recommendation and they would hold it for you (because its supposed to be confidential). Then they would send it when you were ready to apply and it would be coming from an official university address.

This might be a good idea, but I know for my recommendations, many of the schools required the recommenders to fill out online surveys about my performance in addition to a letter. I guess you don’t really have much in the way of options- you could keep in touch via email with your professors, you could plan on getting recs from people who will attest to your work and talent in whatevery you pursue next or you could try what others have suggested and bank recommendations.

Don’t try to get the letters now. Just visit your professors before you graduate, let them know you’ll be applying to grad school in a couple of years, and would like to know if they could write you a supportive letter.

(Professors will NOT forget about you in two years. Guaranteed.)

When it is time to apply, email your professors. Attach one of your SOPs, a resume, and a list of classes you took with them. A graded paper would be a nice addition.
