Letters & Science v. Engineering

Hey guys,

I'm mildly lost right now with the choices I have to make in the coming weeks in applying to Berkeley. I'm looking to major in Computer Science, but don't know whether I should apply to L&S or Engineering. All I know is that L&S offers a B.A. degree, and Engineering offers a B.S. degree. A B.S. degree is more highly regarded in terms of CompSci, I'm guessing? Also, I know Engineering is significantly harder to get into as a freshman (which I am.) Can anyone else enlighten me on differences between the two colleges, and possibly give me some suggestions as to what I should do?

Stats, briefly: 2300 SAT, 34 ACT, 790MathII, 740USH, 660 Chemistry (ouch.)
Varsity Basketball Captain, Internship in IS dept. of a state agency, some other misc. things.

Thanks in advance! And I know it's a very broad question, sorry about that!

What’s your gpa? Assuming like a 4.2+ weighted, you should have a good chance at getting in.

Also, look at the other topic for BA vs BS.

Hmmmm… My GPA is 4.35~ weighted. The thing is, honestly, I’m scared. I do NOT want to be turned away from Berkeley, but would greatly prefer to get into the Engineering college.

And so sorry, but which other topic are you referring to? Did a search of the forum and skimmed over the Berkeley subforum, and can’t find it!

You will get into CoE easily without a doubt …

For differences, search around. This question has been asked so many times already.

Your application is solid. If you prefer EECS, apply EECS. You would really need to screw up your essay to get rejected.
