Congratulations to everyone that got in! Haha, bcgirl13, your post reminded me of my own reaction so I know what you mean! :-)

I don't know about the numbers because I appled EA, but I don't think those numbers are accurate...or at least they're not what we think they are. It's just not possible that BC has that low of an acceptance rate (it's climbing the selectivity ladder, but not that fast...). Perhaps thay didn't include EA acceptances in that 2250? Or was the 2250 the number of spots they have to fill? I think it's the latter...

Congrats!!

My sister is still waiting to hear from BC.
Nothing in the mail today though..
We live 30 minutes South of Boston, so I wonder what's taking so long..

I know a couple of her friends got their rejection letters last Monday or Tuesday, so maybe it's a good sign... :-)

The incoming class is 2250, they accept many many more than the incoming class to make up for people that won't attend.

BC has between a 30 and 40 percent admit rate, meaning they probably admitted about 8000 applicants, hoping that 2200 would matriculate. The best schools have yields that are in excess of their admit rate. For example Harvard has about a 10% admit rate but about a 75% or 80% yield. yield/admit rate is a good measure of a schools selectivity. Georgetown, for instance, had to fill about 1500 freshman spots from a pool of 15000 applicants, a ratio of spots/ applicants very similar to BC's. But Georgetown is much more selective and only admits about 20 percent of applicants so their yield should be around 50 percent. Another thing obviously worth noting is that the applicant pool for a school like Georgetown wil be more competitive than BC's and a school like Harvard's would be exponentially more competitive. so these schools are even more selective than the quantitative difference in admit rates indicates.

yeah i know how it works, however, i took from the letter that they had only accepted 2250. I just skimmed it quickly. which is why i regarded the topic in general with apprehension in my first post. calm down killer.

Collegeman,
Go away and stop trying to downplay the signaficance of some people's acomplishments on this forum. Many people with similar educational backgrounds as ours would be thrilled to go to a school such as Boston College, even if in your mind it doesnt compare to the "elite" schools including Harvard and Georgetown. I applied to Harvard ED, but after reading the pretentious posts coming from individuals like yourself, I am now less inclined to attend even if I do get in. You see, people like yourself just reinfoce the arrogant, elitist stereotype that exists with regard to the ivys. Myself, and if you read this thread carefully, many other people on this forum who were accepted have higher SAT scores, more EC's, and just as many AP's as some of the people who were accepted to the Harvard's, Princeton's, and Yale's. Some of us just didn't get lucky enough in the ultra-competitive admissions process there, and were reasonable enough to apply to a place like BC(unlike many people on this forum, who applied to only ivys assuming they'd get in to all of them) where we would have a slightly better chance of getting in. So please, if you're going to continue posting, stop being so negative and stop trying to make acceptees of this forum feel like they "only" got into the 37th best university(according to US News) in the nation. I'm proud to say that I am seriously considering BC over Harvard because of the equally talented, more humble, and and less obnoxious student body there.

Well said Keynes1105!

keynes baby, easy balla. don't take so much offense to collegeman's post, i dont think it was intended to downplay anything. I got into BC the other day and i'm really excited about it so i searched the net and stumbled upon this forum hoping to see what kinds of people i'd be going with. I hope my class next year isnt going ot be a lot of kids who are bitter about getting rejected from ivies. Be proud to be an eagle, don't feel a need to bash some of the great schools in this country and because of how they have dealt with you. If you come to bc next year i hope you leave that ivy-bashing lingo at home. BC is a great school and so are the ivies, can we all agree about that. I think one person was just trying to explain to another how admission percents and yields and all that business works and put BC in perspective, because blazing asian didnt understand it....Whew.....in any event i'm really excited about the coming year, and i hope the eagles improve on their 25-5 basketball season. ACC here we come!

Yea, I can't wait to watch them play(and hopefully beat) Duke and UNC next year.

In the Fiske guide that I have, it says that BC enrolls 33% of those who are accepted. Thus if they want 2250 for their Class of 2009, then they will likely accept 6750 out of the 24000 who apply, yielding about a 28% acceptance rate. So those who have been accepted should feel very proud of their achievement!

What are people planning on majoring at BC, and did that have any effect on whether I got in or not? I said I hope to major in Black Studies

Hey Keynes1105, I think collegeman102 is right on, and you're cracked. My observation is Georgetown is a tougher admit than BC, but not deservedly so, and Harvard is exponentially tougher, and very deservedly so. I live in the Boston area, and my observation is that Harvard has its legacies for sure, but its student body's diversity and character far outshine a BC crowd that has a reputation as a bunch of pretentious partying socialites. I do hope BC beats UNC and Duke though!

Boooo on Georgetown! Haha okay yeah im just bitter cause I got waitlisted there, but does anybody here know anything about the comparison between BC and Tufts? I think I'd have a really hard time deciding between the two if I got into tufts, so if anyone knows some inside dirt on which one is better, feel free to share.

georgetown is just driving me insane seriously! they are killing me right now

got into bc today tho! well yesterday now!

awwwww keynesey i didn't mean to offend. maybe i could hav worded my post a little better considering it was on the bc admit forum but the facts still stand. and dont feel bad if bc doesnt stack up to harvard, your EA choice, because its obviously the most extreme example i could use. frankly, bc is quietly becoming a very popular selective school. about 5 years ago they took 16000 applications and now 24000? that growth is impressive.

asdfjkl87: i had the unique opportunity to actually spend a weekend in the fall up at bc and tufts, so i have some perspective. Tufts overall has a slight edge academically and in most departments, particularly the sciences, engineering, and economics and if youre pre-med. But i think the Humanities at BC are stronger and the professors of the humanities are better too. BC is also a little better for pre-law people. both schools are in semi-suburban locales within 5 minutes of the city, and the student bodies are similar; although i would say that tufts seemed to have a few more serious academics than bc, and bc had more of the fun loving preppy types. BC is a lot better if you're a sports fan. They just joined the ultracompetetive ACC while the jumbos of Tufts are in the NESCAC competing with the likes of Bowdoin and Trinity in D3 action. Also worthy of note is that Tufts has about half as any undergrads as bc, so its a little more intimate. so good luck, depends what youre looking for.

Accepted (With Honors Program Invite)

SATI: 1450, SATIIs: 770 Writing, 760 Math IIC, 730 Chinese w/Listening & Biology M, 700 Chemistry GPA: 3.92 uw School Doesn't Rank

I didn't get Financial Aid notifications either

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!
GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no financial aid in the folder though..

Acceptees: are you gonna go?

Nope, I don't think so. I received an awesome financial aid package at Wellesley that BC, frankly, can't touch, so sadly no BC for me.
