Level 1 PSAT Writing Question

Ok, the last two times I did an official College Board practice PSAT, I only missed 1 on both writing sections. They were both level 1.

What.

Anyway, here's the question:

Unlike sight, hearing is enhanced underwater because blah blah blah.

A. Same
D. Hearing, unlike sight, is enhanced water because blah.

Seriously, why is this not D? They seem to be equally right, and there's NO WAY this should be the first question in the section.

I think it’s A simply because D is more awkward

Can you give the exact sentence? If what came after were both exactly the same, I would say it is A because the sentence is not interrupted(?).

It’s the same because D changes the meaning of the sentence which is soemhing the Sat tries to trick you on!

^I don’t see how the meaning is changed with D.

D is better because it avoids commas in weird locations. On the SAT and PSAT, look for answers that clearly convey the meaning of the sentence, less= good. And yes sometimes the meanings are changed and its pretty funny to imagine the changed sentences in your head as they make no sense sometimes ( this is coming from a perfect W scorer :stuck_out_tongue: )

Actually iceqube was right. It doesn’t change the meaning. Sorry! Regarding the Op, don’t feel bad because this has happened to me before. It turns out the answer to that question I missed was the answer that clearly conveyed the meaning of the sentence and it was in the active voice.

Sorry the answer is A. Even though it’s not explicitly stated, 2 choices, A and D, are given and OP says “why is this not D?” answer is A.

If the sentence is clear enough (without changes), then it should always be chosen. This is like how the House has an advantage when playing blackjack.

“D. Hearing, unlike sight, is enhanced water because blah.”

Hearing is enhanced water? o.0

Anyways, when the sentence is correct as it is, just leave it. :)

I remember this problem.
If I recall correctly, choice D did not have a verb.

It read:

Hearing, unlike sight, enhanced underwater because blahblah

I believe you put an imaginary is in there.
