I don't want to bombard you with interests and stats and things of the like, but in order to paint a picture (nice play on words) of myself.. I'll dispose some. I'm applying ED to Princeton. I love the school. Have had my heart set on it for a while. The only thing that worries me is that I'm very much an artist--poetry, painting, all things creative. I know Brown and some of the other Ivies (Yale) focus more on these elements than Princeton.

..Where is she going with this?

I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this aspect of Princeton. Is there an opportunity to pursue an artsy path? I'm not talking as a major, b/c I'm already aware of what the school has to offer. I guess what I'd like to know is if there is a creative vibe going on and if this "conservative, career-oriented" persona that has been referred to some on this site is truly accurate. Thanks for your time!

Princeton has all types of students. Although Brown might have a higher percentage of artsy students, you shouldnt have any trouble finding plenty of soul mates at Princeton.

you applied (binding) before you asked this? (just curious)
anyway, you're in luck...pton has wonderful arts. 185 Nassau is the "creative arts" building. this is where the dance, photography, creative writing, and visual arts are housed. it's an amazing little enclosed environment right where the campus meets "downtown" princeton, it's full of the university's artsy students.

on the music side of "art":
have you HEARD the princeton orchestra?

breathtaking.

a friend of mine is a freshman there and has started about 3 bands. the student/musicians i met there were some of the greatest I've ever heard.

no sure about the dance/photo/art side of things

You will love it there! My d is very involved with the artistic community and her only problem is finding the time to take advantage of all the opportunities that present themselves. There are many kindred spirits. I think often people assume that only students who look goth are artsy. For the most part this is not the case at Princeton, but nonetheless there is a very vibrant artistic community.
