On average, how difficult is it to receive A's at Emory? I know a lot of other top colleges inflate their students' grades, but is it particularly hard to stay on top of your studies? I plan on majoring in Econ. Will there be any time to balance a social life with my academic schedule?

I understand taht this is an entirely subjective question, but I just want to get a feel for the educational environment. Any input would help. Thanks!

Difficulty varies radically, depending on professor, course level, and major. In the Econ department, I think that getting an "A" in a course is not particularly hard to do. Micro and Macro, for example, are extremely easy courses that I think are comparable to AP Econ courses in high school. While I'm sure that upper-level courses in Econ are much harder, I still get the impression that Econ is not particularly rigorous, and that getting "As" is quite doable. What I've heard is that a lot of students majoring in Econ are students who couldn't cut the b-school classes.

It is very possible to have an active social life and to earn excellent grades at the same time.

if you put effort into your work and enjoy the subject you are studying then you will not have problems doing well. Will you get all As probably not but you will be able to get above a 3.5 gpa easily.

Remember, this is a skewed sampling of students. The average undergrad GPA is something like a 3.1. Half of students do better, half do worse. Emory is challenging but not impossible.

Economics isn't the hardest Major, and your first two years will be filled with General Education Requirements, which on a whole are pretty manageable/easy.

The GPA of this forum is probabley higher then the GPA of Emory Undergrads as a whole.

A 3.4-3.6 GPA shoulnd't be hard to maintain at all, unless your Pre-Med.

How hard a class is, is all up to the Professor. Have you that about the B School? You can double major; Economics and Business (Finance, Accounting, Marketing, O+M, Info. Decision Analysis)

The average GPA for undergraduate emory students is 3.3 according to a Boston U article on grade inflation. A 3.3 gpa is one of the highest in the nation. Harvard has an average gpa of 3.4.
