"Level of Interest"-How Important

Apropos of nothing in particular.

I've been painstakingly looking at several colleges' Common Data Set(s). One of the admission criteria listed is "Level of Interest" in the school.

Now, most of the colleges have checked either "Considered" or "Not considered"(as opposed to Very Important, Important etc.)

In fact, most of those I'm interested in, checked "Not considered."

Now, my question is, are these schools being disingenous with that selection? Everything I read is that colleges want you to "love" them. Many a thread details kids emailing their admissions counselor on a regular basis. Also, "points" are supposedly earned for campus visits, interviews, etc.

Ok, so which is it? Is "level of interest" important or not? Just askin'

I believe it is more important at the smaller colleges. The large universities are probably not going to be aware whether you visit or not. It’s all (mostly) about numbers.
