Wondering if the private schools assign alumni interviewers randomly, or if the “better prospects” get assigned to the more senior/influential alumni? We know of two students who applied to the same school and had drastically different alumni interview experiences. There don’t seem to be many rules that the alumni have to follow, so there is little internal consistency to the process. But one of the students met with someone who indicated that the school had already had narrowed down the top candidates from his area, and that level was given to him to interview. That seemed highly unlikely given that it was only one month after the application deadline! So do they really assign alumni interviewers according to your chances of getting in?
I don’t think so.
I think they just split people randomly and some alumni are just better at interviewing than others. I’d just attribute it to luck of the draw.
