Leventhal School of Accounting

I've already sent my USC application for Dec. 1 deadline. I need someone to clarify something for me. It won't change my decision to pursue an education at USC if I get accepted.

I selected Leventhal on my application. Is Leventhal part of Marshall? If I want to major in accounting but also information systems, which is offered at Marshall, can I do that?

Also, it said "freshman" in parenthesis after Leventhal on the application. Does that mean only freshmen gets to apply to Leventhal, the program begins at freshmen year, or the program is only available at freshmen year?

Thanks for posting this. That’s exactly what I want to know as well.

They are different schools but Business has some required Accounting classes and Accounting has some required business classes. If you are interested in Information Systems, consider Accounting Information Systems (offered through Leventhal). Otherwise you can probably double major but you will be in school forever because each track has so many requirements.

If Leventhal has Accounting Information Systems, that’s perfect for me. Does that mean I graduate with an accounting degree or an IS degree?

Can someone please answer my question regarding the freshmen thingy?

My daughter is seeking to transfer also to USC. Based on our reading of the USC website info, only freshmen applicants can apply directly to Levanthal. Transfers must apply to Marshall. After completing USC’s required accounting class, can then switch over to Levanthal.

As a freshmen, the difference between being in Levanthal and Marshall are not really that different. The earliest that most people will start the difference between the accounting and business curriculum is spring of sophomore year if you choose to do BUAD302 (versus BUAD302T, the accounting version of the class). But yes, technically Marshall and Leventhal are different, but similar. And you can apply to be in Levanthal if you apply through Marshall, you just need to have a “B” average in BUAD 250A and 250B. I’d assume going from Leventhal to Marshall would be even easier.

Since Levanthal is a separate school from Marshall, does it have the same prestige and great education as Marshall?

Levanthal is part of the Marshall School of Business. The undergraduate degree a student would earn is a B.S. in Accounting.

Marshall has what they call “Academic Areas”. These are: Center for Management Communication, Dept. of Finance and Business Economics, Dept of Inormation and Operations Management, Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Dept. of Marketing and the Dept. of Management and Oranization.

At Levanthal one can take a “Concentration” in Accounting Information Systems. Marshall explains it in their brochure, “A concentration is a specialization in a particular area of business–courses usually taken during senior year. A concentration offeres an opportunity to delve into the aspect of business that most interest you and is the best fit with your career goals. Options include taking these courses abroad or (with approval) designing an individualized concentration.”

The students at SC are completing final exams. I do not know if staff offices are still open due to winter break Here is the toll free number for the Marshall School of Business.
If someone has specific questions, perhaps this would be a good source of information.
The phone number is: 800-352-5719.
