LGBT Friendly?

UMTC is one of my choices for college and two of the requirements I have for the schools I'm looking at is that they have a very LGBT-friendly/accepting atmosphere and a strong LGBT support system. Does UMTC have these two requirements? And do you know of any other universities in the midwest who meet the same requirements?

max…I don’t have any direct knowledge of the campus atmosphere towards the LGBT community, but the Twin Cities are widely recognized as the most open-minded and liberal of the major Midwest cities. When we’ve been on campus visiting our D1 we’ve seen advertisements for at least a few different LGBT student groups, and here’s a link to the campus LGBT support office. I’m sure they can give you the best information on the campus climate. Good Luck in your college search!!

Minneapolis, as a city, has a huge lesbian / gay population. (I honestly don’t know about BT) My neighbor kid lived in the LGBT dorm called “Lavender House” and this gave him a huge sense of belonging.

The U has a ** HUGE ** gay student population and never once during my time here have I met someone who wasn’t accepting of it. On a weekly basis I see college-aged gay couples walking around campus holding hands and no one judges or even bats an eye. There’s a pretty well reknown Queer Student Center, several organizations, and then Minneapolis in itself is extremely gay-friendly and has tons of gay bars/coffee shops/etc.

The LGBT population definitely has their own groups and I believe find it easy to find friends that share their similar interests. Most of the students at the U are very accepting and all of the gay people I know on campus seem happy that they chose to come here. I haven’t heard of any problems regarding acceptance on campus so the U is a great choice for LGBT students in my opinion.
