<p>I've heard some mixed things about Duke being very open to the whole LGBT scene. Is this true? What sort of programs and services are there for LGBT students?</p>

<p>Duke, though it may not be as open as say Brown or NYU, is still VERY open and accepting of LGBT students. Duke has its own (HUGE!) LGBT Center right in the middle of campus that offers many programs to LGBT students and their allies. I’d encourage you to check out the website:</p>

<p>Second, Duke has its own student group for LGBT students and allies called “Blue Devils United.” This year the group has started a blog where LGBT students can discuss all things related to being LGBT, whether they relate to the Duke experience or not. Check it out here:</p>

<p>The blog has been immensely popular and gets hits from people all over the world. If you’re interested in becoming involved in the LGBT Community once you get to Duke, I’d suggest stopping by the center (located by the Plaza right under the Loop) sometime during Blue Devil Days. Also, once the semester starts, the center sponsors several orientation (no-pun intended) programs for freshmen specifically. You can join the listserv on the front page of the website (link above) to keep an eye out for all of the events on campus and in the surrounding Duke community.</p>
