What is the LGBT life at columbia like, particularly for males? Is the campus very liberal and accepting? On campus, what's the action like? Is it more of a hook-up or relationsip school? Is interracial dating common?

I am a gay student applying to columbia as well, so I asked this a few months ago. I believe that most of the responses said that people are generally accepting, and it is not uncommon to see a gay couple hand-in-hand. Also, it’s New York City, man! I doubt that there will be any limit to the action you can get. Unless you’re totally deadset on dating Columbia guy, I would say you’re fine. I have no clue about hook-up vs. relationship and the interracial dating scene. That is a mystery to me lol. Good luck!

I’ve never seen a gay couple hand-in-hand on campus but spotted a few obvious gay guys. (By obvious I mean their fashion.) Regardless, I think people are okay with you being gay and totally open about it.

As for interracial datings, well, NYC is the melting pot and so is CU. President Bollinger announced at Columbia College Class Day that more than 50% (or perhaps greater) of Class of 2013 would be students of colour.
I’ve never seen a gay couple walk hand in hand either but they’re all over yes. You’ll be fine. I wouldn’t know about the hook-up scene but I did walk in on two friends getting, err, digital in a party’s bathroom. That was awkward.

Again, you’re in New York City. You will be fine.
