LGBT Scholarships

In response to a recent post regarding a supposed LGBT scholarship (the legitimacy of which I was unable to verify), I have found the following alternative: [Point Foundation](http://www.pointfoundation.org/).

The annual scholarship deadline is January 20, so applications have already closed for 2015 . . . but I am hoping that this information may be useful to you for future years. My understanding is that awards are available to both new and continuing undergraduate (and graduate) students. Here are the posted [2015 application instructions](http://www.pointfoundation.org/OnlineApplicationInfo) and [eligibility requirements/url.

Point Foundation is listed with the IRS as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. You can find the 501-C(3) tax ID number at the bottom of their donation page](http://www.pointfoundation.org/eligibility), and confirm that it’s registered with the IRS by copying that ID number into this [IRS search engine.

This scholarship was among the resources listed in the New Jersey Department of Children and Families Resource Guide](http://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/mainSearch.do?mainSearchChoice=pub78&dispatchMethod=selectSearch).

I’ve applied to Point already-- it’s incredibly reputable and I recommend other students do the same. Being recognized as a finalist means up to $10,000 in financial aid for four years, as well as mentoring, career help and counseling, if necessary.

The Queer Foundation also has a $1,000 essay scholarship that I would recommend to and LGBT students who are in touch with LGBT politics and culture. That can be found here: http://queerfoundation.org/html/essay_contest.html

Good luck to all!
