Lgbt

How the scene out there?

I don't know how Hyde Park is, but Chicago has boys town, you should be able to find someone.

What does "Lgbt" stand for?

Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender

lgbtqq alphabet soup

Neverborn - I missed the joke. Could you explain?

Myself: The "gay movement" as it were continues to add letters to its acronym.

First it was LGB - Les/Bi/Gay.

Then L/G/B/T - Les/Bi/Gay/Trans

Now I'm seeing flyers for LGBTQQ Awareness Week ... Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transsexual, Queer, and Questioning.

I still don't know what the difference between lesbian/gay and queer is.

Well - you've got me. I always found it odd that gays adopted the term "queer" to describe themselves - the actual word queer (before it became usurped) meant odd or distasteful and has a rather negative connotation to it. Who knows.

See, I knew neverborn was queer.

Esquared: Mmmmmhm. You're wrong. Again. :P

There's a pretty large lgbtq presence here. We have a Q & A (queers and associates, for those wary of acronyms) and a bunch of get-together type groups. There's also FemMajority and a gay discussion group, but i know very little about those.

I meant queer as in "odd or distasteful". You seem masculine enough.

Oh. I am odd and distasteful, yes.

The difference between queer and gay/lesbian is that:
1. Queer isn't restrictive to either a male or female, while a term like lesbian is
2. Queer isn't restrictive to someone who likes exclusively his or her own sex; rather, a bisexual is considered queer as well
3. Queer theory would have it said that even straight individuals can be considered queer if they embrace the acceptability of being gay and the destruction of sex/gender barriers... the term really isn't ever used like that though
4. People who are unsure of their sexuality can identify as queer without having to pigeonhole themselves as "gay" or "lesbian" or "bisexual" or "question" or "curious" or whatever. The term queer doesn't really have any qualifiers on it in the way the terms lesbian and gay do.

Well, then. I guess part of me is queer afterall.

And just to clarify, it's because of #3. DAMN THE SEXUAL BARRIERS.

so does asexual fit into the queer category

Are there people without sexual urges at all, barring a medical anomaly? Or are you referring to hermaphroditism? Are you an asexual?

are you a teletubby

I have heard that all the teletubbies are asexual. I don't know though because Laa Laa appears to have the eye for Tinky Winky!

Are you unable to use question marks?
