LGBTQ+ life at UR

The University of Rochester is currently my first choice, but I had a few questions before I commit. How is LGBTQ+ life at Rochester? I am gay and I want to study at a school where there are a good amount of LGBTQ+ students and where being LGBTQ+ is not a problem. How is the gay scene, in terms of both community and dating, at the University of Rochester, and in Rochester itself? I’m male, if that makes any difference.

Hi, I can’t exactly speak for the school right now, but my older brother went to Rochester a while ago (he’s 33 now, went ten years ago) and one of my close friends went there for a year before transferring because of health reasons. Even around a decade ago it’s been described as a “haven” for LGBTQ+ life, and was very active and accepting even then. I know around the city there are a bunch of gay bars and that the students are generally accepting and liberal.

Hope to see you in the fall! #classof2k19
