Liberal Art College and National U

Hi,

I am a high school student applying for college. I heard that its easier for u to find a job if u study in a National U rather than a Liberal Art College

Is that true?

I get accepted in Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Is it a good school for Computer Science?

A big university may attract more recruiters than a small school with similar “quality” reputation, simply because one visit could yield more candidates.

But there are lot of other factors that play into recruiting, such as the school’s “quality” reputation (which may be major-specific) and location.

WPI is ABET accredited for Comp Sci but I’m not sure that’s a real differentiator like it is for engineering.

In CS, ABET accreditation is useful only in a positive sense in that an ABET accredited CS degree program is good enough to meet a minimum standard.

A non-ABET accredited CS degree program may be good or bad. The good ones are at well-known-for-CS schools like Stanford or Berkeley (L&S CS is not ABET accredited, but EECS is) where the name of the school is sufficient for recognition and reputation. However, there are also many very limited non-ABET accredited CS degree programs around, some at schools that are relatively high in general reputation and prestige.

thanks… some more opinions will be good for me

Should I go to Liberal Art college or National U?

Bigger schools mean more competitors. Ask anyone who’s ever done pre-med at a National U; the admission rates are much lower.
