What liberal art schools offer (really) good undergrad programs for a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science? I need a college that will also let me have alot of research oppurtunities and where I won’t run out of classes for each subject.
My daughter was a math-cs major at Brown. While I suppose you could double major, they actually have a joint major between the two depts. You can put together the rest of your program yourself with the open curriculum taking advantage of the rich liberal arts offerings and taking whatever additional math or CS electives interest you. Research opportunities are abundant.
Probably Williams?
Harvey Mudd?
LACs with convenient cross-registration access to schools with larger math and CS departments may also be possibilities. Examples include Barnard (with Columbia), the schools in the consortium arrangement with University of Massachusetts - Amherst, and the other Claremont colleges (with Harvey Mudd).
You can go to each school’s catalogs and schedules on the web to see what math and CS courses it offers, and how often.
Harvey Mudd has a [url =<a href=“Joint Major in Computer Science and Mathematics | Computer Science | Harvey Mudd College”>Joint Major in Computer Science and Mathematics | Computer Science | Harvey Mudd College</a>] joint major in computer science and mathematics.
Yep, definitely Williams.
LACs with notably high percentages of math majors:
Harvey Mudd (14%)
Williams (13%)
Hamilton (10%)
Bowdoin (9%)
Pomona (9%)
The course descriptions for math and computer science, at these LACs and others, will be one indicator as to whether they would be suitable for you.
maybe Holy Cross
Holy Cross is somewhat limited in CS. It does not have some advanced courses like databases, networks, and security/cryptography, and the advanced courses it does offer are only offered once every two years.

Carleton - 9.4% math majors, 6.4% CS

Actually, Swarthmore, Reed and Carleton have the highest PhD productivity among LACs in math/CS and among the highest concentration of majors in the fields. All would be excellent choices.
Uhh… Swarthmore? You can take higher level math courses (grad level) at Bryn Mawr and (I believe) UPenn. Our CS department is tight knit. Swarthmore also sends a lot of kids to get phds.
