Hi.
Ive been living in the US my whole life, but I am an international student apparently.
So Ive been looking around at colleges and was wondering if it is easier for internationals to be accepted in liberal arts colleges than other, research universities.
Thanks in advance!
Depends on the LAC, but for the most part it is not easier. Are you looking for financial aid? That can be hard to come by for international students. Give us some more details on stats, locations, major, financial situation, and maybe we can make some suggestions.
Comparing the top 20 national universities vs the top 20 liberal arts colleges. Would the liberal arts colleges accept relatively more than the national universities?
No. In fact, in terms of sheer numbers, they accept fewer international students because they’re smaller than the universities and therefore accept a smaller number of students, period.
By the way, don’t use the word “national.” There are no national universities in the U.S., only state universities and private universities.
Liberal arts colleges may accept a smaller number of applicants but a larger percentage. I don’t have concrete numbers to back up this observation, but the posters on this board have historically had an easier time gaining admission to selective liberal arts colleges than to selective universities.
That being said, the education at a liberal arts college and at a research university are not interchangeable. If your #1 choice would be Stanford or MIT, you are much more likely to be happy at a somewhat less selective large university than at a top liberal arts college.
