Liberal Arts College Interview with Admissions Counselors

For a small LAC, does a good/memorable interview with an admissions counselor impact your admissions decision? If yes, how does it impact your admissions decision?

It depends on the college. Some have evaluative interviews, others have informational interviews.

@happy1 what are the differences between the two?

Informational interviews are meant to provide information about the school to applicants and typically don’t count, evaluative interviews are meant to evaluate the candidate and typically do count. To find out you can look or the school website, look at the school’s common data set, or ask admissions when you schedule your interview. Whichever yours was for a small LAC it is good to demonstrate interest by doing an interview.

@happy1 mine was an evaluative interview (:

Some schools care about interviews a lot, Wooster and Conn both told my kid it mattered. OTOH, Amherst doesn’t even offer interviews. So definitely check.

Good. While it is certainly not a guarantee of admission, it should weigh in your favor. Good luck.

Are follow up thank you letters appropriate for these interviews?

@CHD2013 yeah they are! E-mails and/or snail mail will both do (:
