I'm trying find some small LACs that offer Urban Studies/Geography because I plan to pursue a career in urban planning at this point. My stats are good, ranked 29/665, 3.7 UW GPA, lots of honors and AP classes, my ECs are also good, several leadership roles, one of which is directly related to urban studies. For the sake of discussion, let's ignore cost for now. Environmental Policy is also acceptable.

Clark is known for an excellent geography department and major, and it also has a major in Urban Development and Social Change… some double major in those two. With those stats (similar to my D’s), you’re likely to get a great merit scholarship.

p.s. Occidental is a wonderful school, and that program has a good reputation. There are also tons of internship possibilities here in L.A. (as there are in Worcester, where Clark is).

there are many fields which dovetail with urban planning. if that is, indeed, a field you’re interested in pursuing, it might best be done in graduate school. and in that case, finding a good LAC with strong programs in math/statistics, government/politics/economics, geography, etc. might serve you best for grad school applications.

Yeah, I plan to go to grad school, definitely, which is why I’m interested in LACs. I’m a boy, so I can’t go to Barnard, sadly. Clark! I hadn’t thought of that, thank you.

And yes, for urban planning, one can major in many fields of study, but Urban Studies/Geography are the two that interest me the most and make the most sense.

Yeah, noimagination, I guess that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I’m interested in LACs because of the small classes etc., so I meant that I’m not worried about name recognition because I’m going to go to graduate school, which people will know. And yeah, I got Macalester.

VT isn’t really an LAC, but thank you, maybe for MUP.

Papa Chicken, thank you for that list. I know these majors are pretty uncommon, but I appreciate the research!
