Hello! I'm looking into liberal arts colleges, and I want to double major/minor in sociology with graphic or communications design, or something related. I do know of liberal arts schools like Williams and Oberlin that have great studio art programs, but I'm not sure about graphic design. I think I have a good enough resume to get into schools of that level, but any school with good academics and a strong graphics/arts program would be great.

My apologies if I offended, I’m not really used to how fast this forum works. I would truly appreciate any advice, and again apologize if I sounded ungrateful.

slamsan, My son was a studio art major at Williams. You are correct that the art departments Williams – and most academically rigorous small LACs – focus more on traditional media than on industrial design, graphic arts or new media. Having said that many graduates go on to art related careers in commercial streams, like advertising, design or architecture.

For a wider range of design focused courses you might look at Brown because of its connection to RISD and Skidmore. Also, Conn College though I’m not entirely up to speed on their art curriculum.

Thank you for the reply! I am going to attempt to apply to the dual degree program with Brown and RISD (with not many expectations, but I’m still trying haha)
I think I will still be applying to some liberal arts schools with general arts programs. I don’t think that could hurt my chances of exploring graphic design too much. I’m interested in studio art, just not confident I could make a career out of illustrative work.

If you try using a tool like the college navigator you end up with too many results to sort through. over 500 if search is based on sociology and graphic design -
[College Navigator - Search Results](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - Search Results)

Try adding some more criteria to the search options and it will give you a lot more ideas to look into.
