Liberal Arts Colleges

Since not many people from my school apply to liberal arts colleges, it's kind of hard to see the odds of me getting into one of them. If someone posts some LAC that fit me, that would be great!

Stats: 3.66ish unweighted, 4.27ish unweighted
Top 10% in my class. In last years graduating seniors, 3% of a class of 200 got into yale, princeton, harvard.

Don't have a SAT score yet, but based on my PSAT, I would expect to get a 2100-2200.

Have you taken any full practice SATs? PSAT scores can be very unreliable sometimes.

Do you have an intended major? Location? Affordability? ECs? ACT? I’m guessing you’re a male based on your user name (this is actually very important to some top LACs).

I don’t know my major yet probally math/science related, money is not an issue but is a factor, don’t know my ACT yet but am waiting for my results tonight! I range from high 1900s to mid 2100s( all with no essay) on practice Kaplain books. I am also a guy.

Oh, I have about 50 hours volunteering at a information desk and 150 hours voluntering in research.

My GPA was a 3.95 freshman year, dropped to a 3.3 sophmore year and it’s back around a 3.7 jr year remaining steady, if that helps. I consistently get Bs in sophmore year english and jr year so far and plan to graduate with 6.75 credits of science and 5 credits of math.

APs and honors courses?

Am taking/have taked
Soph year
AP Amer. Hist. B/B

jr year so far
AP lang. B
Ap physics A
Ap Bio A
Ap gov A
Ap stats A

Honors everything else when applicable, such as
Honors english
Honors Latin IV
Honors math
Honors bio
Honors Chem, B/B, (will take APChem next year)

Just out of curiosity, where DO kids at your school apply (besides HYPS!) and why do they avoid LACs?

Our highschool has alot of jews, at least 40%, which could be the reason?

And only like the top 25% actually cares, so
alot of our highschool applied to Uni. Miami Oxford (250)/OSU (500). (*last 5 years rounded).

Also our school has a fetish for Northwestern for some reason, alot of people apply there like 60 the last 5 years

Liberal arts colleges aren’t always as well known as top universities. You might be talking about places like Colby, Trinity, Hamilton, Grinnell, Macalaster depending on what location you want and whether you want a student body that’s quite preppy (Trinity, Colby) or less so (Macalaster). If you do get a 2100 and you want something more artsy, you could consider Vassar.

Update: 32 on the act!!!

There are so many great LAC’s it’s hard to just throw out names. Hitch gave some good ones. You could be quite attractive as a strong math and science kid, it’s a little against type, but not completely. Look for LAC’s who beefed up the science departments and hired strong professors.

Look at Colgate, Bard, Oberlin and Holy Cross just to throw some names out there for you. Get a Fiske Guide if you don’t have one.

That’s assuming you aren’t going for the engineering type school with the LAC underpinning, like Harvey Mudd or Olin. Then there are top LAC’s that are hard to get into and get plenty of strong all around candidates: Carleton, Pomona, Swarthmore

Look at the USNWR National LAC list. Some of the top 10 may be realistic reaches, depending on your ECs etc. You should have a shot at all of the rest, so you might want to focus on schools in the top 40 or so that are in locations you’d like. Wesleyan (CT), Oberlin, and Grinnell are a few that seem to have good science facilities or programs. A few other schools are stand-outs in a particular major, for example Williams or St. Olaf in Math, the Keck Consortium schools in geology, or Middlebury in environmental science.

Our highschool has alot of jews, at least 40%, which could be the reason?

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by this but your implication is highly offensive. Many of the top LACs have a high Jewish population, Swarthmore, Wesleyan, Haverford, Vassar come to mind. These may not be the best choices for you given your apparent prejudice.

"… which could be the reason? "
no, could not, as a blanket statement. They are well represented at LACs.
Though some schools much moreso than others.
